“Hard work pays off. Achievement is made up of 90% hard work and 10% talent. If you dream it you can achieve it.”

These are the words of Muhaimin Johaar, a star volleyball and rugby player. The 13-year-old Paarlite, a Grade 7 learner at Ebenezer Primary, has been chosen as July’s primary school sport star of the month.

He started playing volleyball last year, and it wasn’t until he proved his talent that he was included in the Western Cape u-14 volleyball team.

“I love the thrill of the sport and I [only] started playing last year. I represented Western Province in the recent tournament. We ended second. I played u-14, and we won most of our games in the national volleyball tournament.”

Besides playing volleyball, Muhaimin is also a talented rugby player. Earlier this year he was selected to be part of the u-13 Central Boland rugby team. He got to represent the team in Saldanha Bay during rugby trials.

This young man also forms part of his school’s rugby team. With its upcoming derby in September Muhaimin says he looks forward to taking on its opponents and taking home the winner’s cup. He is a goal-driven sportsman with his eyes on the prize.

“I think we will win, because we work well as a team,” added Muhaimin.

In his spare time he hangs out with his friends and plays video games. Muhaimin says when he grows up he wants to be a software developer.

“Every field involves some level of technology,” he said. “Being a software developer allows me to have many career directions.”

Muhaiman further encourages other young sportsmen and women to push forward, work hard and to follow their dreams.
