Greatness starts small. It starts as potential – a vision of what’s possible, a glimpse into the future. Maybe it’s not clear, or maybe our youth don’t see it yet, but the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation does. They believe there is no greater opportunity to grow young entrepreneurs than through education.
The foundation is calling on young learners to begin creating change, by applying for the Foundation’s High School Scholarship Programme, dedicated to developing the next generation of entrepreneurs.
Applications close on 30 September, and the application criteria are as follows: to apply applicant must be in Grade 6 this year (2021), must obtain a minimum of 70 % for English and mathematics, a minimum of 70% average for remaining subjects, and they must be a South African citizen. The applicant must demonstrate financial need and the applicant must not be older than 12 years of age and not younger than 11 years of age in Grade 6.
The applicant must demonstrate the following entrepreneurial characteristics: the belief that one’s intelligence can be developed, one’s self-belief can achieve goals, positively lead and influence others, and identify opportunities of value, ability to explore and discover new information, problem solving.
The foundation offers high school scholarships to learners who excel academically, who want to make a meaningful difference in the world and who demonstrate financial need. Its partner schools across SA offer quality education if the applicant is accepted. Scholars will be placed at one of these, as they provide access to good education, extramural activities and boarding facilities if needed.
