A fire at the Chester Williams informal settlement in Amstelhof erupted late on Friday evening which devastated about five structures, according to Drakenstein Farm Watch volunteer, Anthea Carlse. She said information about a fire was received before she alerted Paarl emergency services. “I can understand why people complain about emergency services not responding soon enough. But I cannot understand how people had time to film the flames when the fire erupted and did not attempt to extinguish it with buckets of sand or water in the meantime,” Carlse said.
