The early bird gets the worm, or in this case, cash valued at around R145 000.
This after armed robbers targeted Shoprite in Mbekweni on Tuesday morning, around 06:05.
Police spokesperson WO Nceba Vanqa confirmed the robbery, saying the incident occurred when the store’s manager was letting staff in to report for duty. Three unknown men entered the building by force and threatened to shoot the manager, even though he did not see any firearm. One robber was armed with a knife.
“They forced the staff to sit in front of the store’s kiosk and they moved to the cash office,” Vanqa said.
“A cash amount of R145 000 was stolen, in addition to SIM cards, cigarettes, staff cellphones and Shoprite stamps.”
A case of business robbery is being investigated by Mbekweni police.
No injuries were reported.
