Paarl police officers made a swift arrest on Monday after successfully stopping a suspect thanks to a timely tip-off.
Twenty-eight-year-old Asive Mendela from Mbekweni appeared in the Paarl Magistrates’ Court the following day for pointing a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and possession of tik (methamphetamine).
Spokesperson Capt Louise du Plessis explained the arrest was performed soon after the suspect allegedly pointed his firearm from within his vehicle, and aimed it at his victim in New Street.
“The complainant took a description of the vehicle and number plate and reported it to a patrolling Saps vehicle in the area,” she related. “The responding officers located the suspect’s vehicle and pulled it off the road.”
Following a search of the vehicle, police discovered an imitation firearm, 11 rounds of a variety of ammunition and tik on the suspect.
The suspect has been remanded into custody until 17 March.
