Reading about all the developments mushrooming up (and yes, the municipality is just giving every thinkable development the green light to try and get themselves out of their financial woes), I just wonder how many know that by doing so they are using bullying tactics and not taking the public into consideration at all.

A few years ago flats were being built on our doorsteps. We objected in all necessary forums – every single neighbour in the area signed the petition. The municipality just turned its backs on us. It has become an arrogant monster that does not take the plight of rate and tax payers into consideration at all.

But what also makes me want to hit my head against a wall is that the municipality allows two people in this entire town to go along and switch off the Toringkerk bell because it is bothering them!

The church bell is a historic and much loved symbol of the whole of Paarl.

This is just another example of the Drakenstein Municipality not caring for the town or its people.
