There is one week left before the 2023 school admissions for Grade R, Grade 1 and Grade 8 close. The Western Cape Education Department pleads with parents and guardians to apply before the deadline on 15 April at midnight.
The department’s Bronagh Hammond says they have received over 90 000 applications by last week Thursday (31 March). 43 000 of these registrations were enrolment for Grade 8.
“The WCED does, however, understand that some parents/caregivers are restricted in terms of accessibility to equipment. That is why the WCED has arranged for parents to apply via our district offices, or the pop-ups by the WCED at shopping malls and schools.”
On Saturday (9 April) there will be a pop-up registration station at Paulus Joubert Secondary from 09:00 to 13:00. Learners (Grades 2-7 and Grades 9-12) who will transfer to a new school next year can also do a transfer request online. Assistance with registration will also be provided in Ward 26 on Saturday from 10:00 to 12:30. This pop-up station is located at the play park in Lloyd Street in Paarl.
The following documents are required:. The last official school Report Card;. ID, birth certificate, passport of the learner; or a study permit (foreign learners); or proof of application (study permit);. Immunisation card (Road to Health Chart) [Primary Schools Only];. Proof of Residence (rates account, lease agreement, an affidavit confirming residence).
Hammond added that retail and bank statements are not accepted as proof of residence. Parents and guardians will be required to provide a police affidavit for lost or stolen documentation that is not currently available.
