Drakenstein residents can now log their own monthly water meter readings through the Municipality’s online meter reading portal.

According to the municipality this new initiative will assist with the accuracy of billing.

Bradley Brown, Chief Financial Officer at Drakenstein Municipality said that residents should refer to their previous three accounts as a guideline to ascertain the date that their meter readings should be taken and captured on the online system.

“Residents can immediately register online, there is no need to inform Drakenstein Municipality. The meter reading provided will automatically be allocated to the account,” he said.

Residents who do not have access to the internet will not be left behind as Brown explains that these households will still have their water meter readings done manually.

“To ensure the consistency of online capturing of meter readings by consumers, the indicator that a household does online logging of its meter reading will only appear on the manual meter reading apparatus after it has continually been logged for six months,” he explains.

According to Brown the municipality may do check readings at households from time to time. “But the online platform makes provision for photos of the actual meter reading to be uploaded to ensure accuracy of meter readings received.”

The portal will also enable users to submit problems regarding their meters, capture meter readings and view reading history.

Residents who wish to will still have the current option available to call in their meter readings or use the WhatsApp number (071 686 8914) to send meter photos and readings.
