Can the Drakenstein Municipality please launch an awareness campaign about dog owners that just allow their dog to poo on pavements and in spaces such as Paarl Arboretum when walking them, and not picking up behind them.
Yes, there are some dog owners who actually do carry doggy-do bags with them to pick up and dispose of their dog’s mess when walking them in public, but I would say that in general.
It is not only a very unpleasant and unhygienic sight, but if not seen, also a very unpleasant experience stepping into this mess and carrying it home.
With the upgrade of the Arboretum recently, the municipality announced a team of wardens for the Arboretum, but it will seem that this has also now died a quiet death as no-one is ever seen patrolling the area. I believe a woman was again attacked and robbed in the Arboretum a month or two ago – and that in broad daylight (10:00).
But apart from securing the Arboretum, surely such wardens could see to it that people do not let their dogs run wild, leaving their mess there as well.
What the municipality can also investigate is putting up bag distribution posts and bins such at the popular walking space of for example Onrus and Hermanus.
Come on people, clean up your doggy-do behind you!
