The mentorship and bursary fund of House Andrew Murray (HAM) Child and Youth Care Centre in Wellington was strengthened during their recent black-tie dinner and auction.

The event was held on Saturday 11 June in the Paarl Town Hall and included the stories of hope of successful students during the past few years.

HAM Child & Youth Care Centre, a programme of Badisa, is a registered Non-Profit Organisation and cares for 155 children (ages 1 – 18 years old) on a daily basis. These children had been orphaned or placed into a place of safety by the court.

In order to fully cater for the spiritual, emotional, physical, intellectual, social, psychological needs of these children, they are dependent on assistance from the community.

Ivan Swartz, CEO of Valcare, the guest speaker, described the event as “hard work pays off and that he was proud to be part of it”.

Boschendal Brut was served as a welcome drink to guests who attended the event. Mario Arnolds entertained the guests with his saxophone with beautiful jazz music.

A very sophisticated three-course meal with wine pairing was served to the guests with coffee and truffles afterwards.

The master of ceremony Rodger Adams kept the crowd entertained, Shawn van Jaarsveld facilitated the auction and Adrian Beukes of Spectrum Sound was excellent with sound.

Susan Botha, Professional Services manager, introduced the three successful students, Heinrich Gabler, HAM’s Ambassador shared their stories of hope and Willem van Wyk Van Heerde from VWVH Attorneys ended off their involvement in leadership camps for the children.

House Andrew Murray would like to thank everyone who made this event a memorable one: all employees, board members, volunteers, companies and individuals who bought a table and bid for auction items.

E-Nick Catering, Die Goeters, Basson&Basson Hiring, All Things Wedding, DGB, Wesley Martin Photography, MCC Labels as well as all donors who sponsored auction items and lucky draw prises.

Next year HAM will be celebrating its 125th birthday.
