The Paarl police warns the public about fraudulent internet transactions that have occurred over the last few weeks.

Police spokesperson Capt Louise du Plessis said one victim was defrauded of approximately R8 000 after contacting an alleged estate agent via Facebook Market Place.

“The assumed agent working for ‘Western Property Management’ would have assisted in the renting of a flat. However, it was a fraudulent transaction.”

In another incident, a loan was applied for from a company called “Credit Bence Finance”. “After the victim deposited an amount into the account, the loan was never ‘approved’ and the cash amount was gone,” she explained.

“Members of the public are warned to make sure and take precautions when dealing with companies via social media platforms or telephonic transactions,” Du Plessis added.
