I might be stepping on toes here, but the sooner the alien Oaks are removed the better.

The recent storm which brought down branches causing much damage, of which one was almost fatal, is something that is going to continue to happen.

The oaks in our town all develop hollow stems, have a fungus from the honeydew from insects, drip sticky stuff onto cars, falling branches, crushing cars, etc.

I wish the municipality would plant beautiful Wild Olives (our very own indigenous Olienhouts), Wit Stinkhout (Celtis africana), Witpeer (Apodytes dimidiata), Assegai (Curtisia dentata), Klipkershout (Maytenus oleoides), Kaapse Boekenhout (Rapanea melanophloeos), etc., all trees that used to grow in our valley before urbanisation occurred.

These are made for our climate, the oaks not, that is why they keep disintegrating.

Long and short, these indigenous trees are more suited to our area and safer as well.
