Heyday, a beauty emporium in Val de Vie Estate donated 700 environmentally friendly and reusable sanitary towels to selected Valcare organisations. Berna Stofberg, Heyday’s Assistant Manager, explained that it was crucial to raise awareness of period poverty (lack of access to sanitary products) and to find a way to give back. “There are girls in South Africa who miss school because they cannot afford sanitary products,” she explained. “We are glad that, in some way, we can be part of the solution.” Among the organisations receiving the sanitary towels is Athlone House of Strength (AHOS), a home for abused women and children in Paarl. “Some women we shelter have to flee home with nothing but the clothes on their backs,” Loren-Lee Syfers, an employee at AHOS said. “Donations such as these go a long way in ensuring we can provide for their needs. We are grateful.” From left are Berna Stofberg, Loren-Lee Syfers (AHOS) and Chante May.Photo: Valcare
