The Huguenot Memorial Museum successfully hosted the first round of their annual English speech contest for Grade 10 and 11 learners at the museum last Thursday (22 June.) Congratulations to the speakers of Groendal Secondary School and Franschhoek High School who participated and the top three candidates, who will participate in the Cape Winelands District Museums Gala event later this year. The top three candidates are: Shannon Fredericks (Franschhoek High School) in first place, Adrian Fisher (Groendal Secondary School) in second place and Haylah Mwila (Groendal Secondary School) in third place. They received various prizes, including a floating trophy to be placed in their school display cabinets, medals as well as miscellaneous gifts.One of the museum’s board of trustees, Dr Jeremy Davids, head of the Franschhoek Hospitality Academy and Learning Centre, will arrange coaching and mentorship for these top three, to guide and prepare them for the gala event.
