Local roads are still being tainted by horror crashes due to reckless driving. And more often than not these crashes are contributed to by vehicles that are roadworthy.

The City of Cape Town last week announced that they will be impounding such vehicles in a no tolerance stance towards lawlessness on the roads.

In Drakenstein there is a huge amount of outstanding fines – which also goes to show that local road users have no respect for the authority of the law.

This is also evident when driving through the valley and seeing just how lawless drivers are behaving in broad daylight and on very busy roads.

Not to mention the taxi industry whose drivers do nothing else but drive around extremely recklessly, not only endangering the lives of their passengers, – who are often young children – but that of other road users as well. People are simply getting away with such lawlessness and will continue to do so because there is a severe lack of policing the roads. Another example of these lawless road-hogs, is the ongoing saga of illegal drag-racing on public roads. Midnight calls of complaints to law enforcement simply does not stop this on the streets. While our roads are not properly policed, the death toll will increase unchecked each year.
