Five people, including two teenage boys, were shot and killed on Monday (7 August) in Mbekweni.
According to WO Nceba Vanqa, spokesperson for the Mbekweni police, officers were called out to a house in Viyongoma Street in the Chris Hani residential area after a shooting occurred.
On their arrival on the scene, he said, one victim was lying in the yard close to the gate.
“The other victims were found inside the shack on the bed. The door of the shack was forced open and broken. All five victims had gunshot wounds to their heads and were declared dead on the scene.”
Vanqa added the police collected nine cartridges on the scene. The victims were later identified as Zimkhitha Solani (39), Olwethu Sompani (34), Chandre Horn (32), Ntlantla Solani (14) and Simphiwe Solani (12).
Vanqa said according to the information received the suspects were seeking a person called Zuko, an alleged drug dealer in the area.
“Zuko apparently fled the scene. He was the cousin of Zimkhitha and they, together with Olwethu, were well-known in Mbekweni for robbing people and housebreaking. The incident occurred during load shedding.”
No arrests had been made, and police called on anyone with info to contact Mbekweni Police Station on 021 868 9975.
