Pieter Toerien, with Cape Town Opera, presents a much-anticipated revival tour of the world’s most loved musical, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The Sound Of Music at Artscape in Cape Town.

Marking the 11th and final collaboration between legendary composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II, it features a treasure trove of popular show tunes, including “My Favorite Things”, “Climb Ev’ry Mountain”, “Do Re Mi”, “Sixteen Going On Seventeen”, and many more.

The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria von Trapp, follows a young nun in training who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria Maria and the entire Von Trapp family must make a moral choice.

The original stage production won six Tony awards, including Best Musical, and was then adapted into a five Oscar-winning film, which went on to become the most successful movie musical of all time.

Directed by Steven Stead, this new production, with sumptuous sets and costumes, and songs that will stay with you long after the curtain comes down, will be a stellar theatrical event.

It takes place from 14 December to 14 January. Book tickets now, at R150 – R550 through WebTickets.
