SUSPECT WANTED FOR BUSINESS ROBBERY
Paarl police are seeking the assistance of the public in tracking down a male suspect wanted for questioning regarding an armed robbery. It occurred in the Paarl CBD on 10 August. Anyone with information can contact Constable Griddit Brown, the investigation officer, on 021 807 4038 or 082 369 1431.
BEWUSMAKING
CYBER CRIME
Residents have been cautioned to be vigilant when buying items from online platforms such as Facebook marketplace. Police in Paarl say they have received several cases where items were paid for and never received as in some instances false collection addresses were provided.
Police have also warned about schemes where residents are contacted via SMS or WhatsApp about promising investment opportunities that will deliver cash returns. “These schemes request a cash deposit to obtain the benefit and once paid, further payments are required to release the funds,” said Captain Louise du Plessis, a Paarl police spokesperson. She said in some instances up to R1 million was lost due to these investment schemes. Du Plessis said as the festive season is fast approaching residents must be vigilant of calls supposedly from their bank employee about fraudulent activities on their account. “They would often ask that you transfer your funds to another account or provide your banking details. Please do not provide this information telephonically and immediately contact your bank to verify these claims.”
