Paarl CC’s top-order woes continued in its match against Maties in a Boland Premier League game at the Parys grounds last Saturday, when the went down by 6 wickets.

Due to the collapse of the frontline batsmen, Paarl were dismissed for a paltry 134 in 45 overs, which proved not to be a challenge for the students. It was left to Edrique Cook (29, 2×4, 1×6) and Liam Muller (26, 1×4, 3×6) to give the home team’s scorecard some respectability, with Thorston Morkel (17) also showing some fight. Speedster Lehan Botha (10-6-7-3) and spinner Siv Nkomzombi (8-1-26-2) did most of the damage with the ball for the visitors.

Opening batsman Mahir Josephs (50, 6×4) took full control with the bat for the visitors, well supported by Dave Christie (24) and Gys Wege (32). The Paarl captain Adrian du Toit (10-1-27-2) returned the best bowling figures

On Saturday, Paarl travel to Idas Valley for their clash with Stellenbosch CC, while Paarl II are home.
