Fire brakes out along Jan van Riebeeck Drive

Another fire broke out yesterday (24 January) at the back of the Arboretum on the open field next to Jan van Riebeeck Drive. According to Riana Geldenhuys, a spokesperson for Drakenstein Municipality, the municipality’s “fire services received a call at 09:40 and immediately attended to the fire. The fire has been successfully extinguished, and the fire services are currently monitoring the area for any possible flare-ups. No structures have been damaged.” She added that Drakenstein Municipality performed the incident command role and was effectively supported by Drakenstein Farm Watch.Photo: Jana Scheepers
