A 29-year-old Nigerian national appeared in the Paarl Magistrates’ Court on Monday (26 February) after being arrested over the weekend when 1,2 kg of tik was found in the vehicle he was travelling in.
According to Capt Louise du Plessis, a police spokesperson in Paarl, Luke Ekeukwa was apprehended on Saturday (24 February) by members of the Winelands District Flying Squad.
“The officers were reportedly patrolling in the area around Lustigan Road when they stopped a suspicious-looking vehicle. The driver attempted to flee, but officers managed to apprehend him.”
She said an ice-cream container containing the substance was found in his vehicle.
Ekeukwa is charged with dealing in drugs.
He will remain in custody until his next court appearance on Tuesday (5 March).
