A young Paarl conductor is among seven young conductors from among 14 talented candidates who were chosen for the semi-final round of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra’s 6th SA Conductors’ Competition. They are Stuart Martin of Paarl, Jason Atherton of Plumstead, Joshua Louis of Ottery, Damien Philander of Blaaubergstrand, Chevonne Plaatjies of Centurion, Lesedi Sibanda of Johannesburg and Grant Snyman of Gqeberha. All the conductors had master classes with Maestro Arjan Tien before being adjudicated by Tien and conductors Bernhard Gueller and Jeremy Silver with the CPO’s CEO, Louis Heyneman. The final round will be held next year. The winner of this 6th competition will not only study with Tien in The Netherlands for a few weeks but will be invited by RandMerchant Bank to conduct in a Starlight Classics concert in the near future. The seven are at the front from left: Chevonne Plaatjies and Stuart Martin
