Long-standing Paarl resident and master swimmer David Frost competed in the 41st annual South African Masters Swimming Championships in George from 11 to 14 March 2026.
This marked his 21st appearance at the national event, which is hosted at a different location across the country each year.
Frost competed in the 65–69 age category, securing bronze medals in the 800m freestyle and 400m individual medley, as well as silver medals in the 200m butterfly and both the 200m and 100m breaststroke events.
He was also part of the gold medal-winning team in the 200m medley relay (280–319 combined age category), where the quartet set a new South African Masters Swimming record with a time of 2:21.04.
In the 1km open water event, Frost finished 28th overall and first in his age category, recording a time of 17 minutes and 42 seconds.
In February, he also took part in the renowned Midmar Mile in Howick, KwaZulu-Natal, for the second time.
In addition to the main race, Frost competed as part of a South African National Defence Force (SANDF) team, helping secure gold for the second consecutive year. In the main event, he placed third in his 61–70 age category, earning a bronze medal, and finished 136th overall.

Notably, the event also saw three generations of the Frost family participate with his son, Alric, a former Paarl Boys’ High learner, and his granddaughter, Aerin, a Grade 7 pupil at Laerskool Voorpos in Pretoria.
