Cotton yarn exports:
Paarl’s Berg River Textiles has broken into the export market and has clinched a deal which could lead to R1 000 000 of cotton yarn being exported to Mozambique. The managing director, Mr Bob Anker, said that in the face of stiff international competition the company had won a R150 000 trail order for the supply of cotton yarn to Mozambique and options had been given to the customers to place R1 000 000 of business. It is clear that Berg River has set its sights on building an export programme. In addition to Mozambique the company has made small but interesting sales to Mauritius.
Evkom 50 jaar oud: Die Elektrisiteitsvoorsieningskommissie, of Evkom, is vanjaar 50 jaar oud.
Restaurant burglary:
Small boys between 10 and 11 are believed to have broken into the Wagon Wheels Restaurant in Lady Greystreet during the early hours of the morning and decamped with R30 in cash, the money being left in the building for small change for the following day’s business. The burglars enjoyed themselves, drinking many bottles of cooldrink and smoking cigarettes to their heart’s content. The total loss was estimated at R100.
