Koste Van Monument R495 000: Die jongste beraming vir die koste van die oprigting van die Afrikaanse Taalmonument op Paarlberg van R495 000 is bekend gemaak op die jaarvergadering van die Taalmonumentkomitee Vrydagaand in die Noorder-Paarlse Kerksaal. Tot op hede is R516 000 ingesamel. Die pad na die monument is voltooi en die koste daaraan, deur die Provinsiale Administrateur, is R200 000. Mnr. D.J, Geldenhuys, die sekretaris, meld in sy jaarverslag dat daar ook ’n informele amfiteater vir R300 000 ingerig sal word.
Charity Ball of Mayor – Block of Flats for the Elderly:
There seems to be some doubt as to the charity which is to benefit from the proceeds of the Mayor’s Charity Ball and in order to clarify the position, a statement has been issued by the Mayor and Mrs Ina Rens, chairlady of the Charity Ball Committee. The statement reads: The Vergenoegd Executive W.O. 306 will erect a block of flats to be known as “Vergenoegd” to provide accommodation for aged persons whose means preclude them from being housed under sub-economic state-assisted shcemes. The flats will be financed by the Town Council out of a housing loan already approved and allocated by the Department of Community Development.

Sending Pictures by Phone (London):
A device that makes it possible to send facsimile documents by the ordinary telephone has been described in the BBC World Service. It is the new Telecopier, made by the Anglo-American company Rank-Xerox, and it already has thousands of users in the U.S.A. The Telecopier stands on an office desk connected to an ordinary telephone. The person sending the document feeds it into the machine, dials the person with a similar device, pushes a button and in four minutes the picture has appeared on the receiving end.
