Taalmonument Kan Gebou Word: Die Afrikaanse Taalmonument sal nog in hierdie jaar gestalte begin aanneem, het ’n woordvoerder aan die Paarl Post gister gesê. Die voorbereiding en die beplanning van die monument het so ’n gevorderde stadium bereik, dat met die oprigting van die monument teen die hange van Paarlberg daadwerklik begin kan word.
Pharmacy Broken Into:
The Drakenstein Pharmacy was broken into at Paarl this week and according to a police spokesman, goods to the value of R2 000 were stolen. The Bellville Railway Police made a swoop in Cape Town and arrested a 16-year-old boy in connection with the burglary. The boy was expected to appear in the Paarl magistrates’ court this week.
Gedood In Vliegtuigongeluk: Mnr. Gernot Gessert wat hierdie week saam met sy eggenote en ’n ander egpaar in ’n vliegtuigongeluk in S.W.A. gesterf het, was ’n oudleerling van die Paarlse Hoër Jongenskool van 1964 tot 1966. Reeds op skool het hy getoon dat hy in ’n puik veldatleet gaan ontwikkel en het W.P. in die diskusnommer verteenwoordig. Hy het oor ’n pragtige stem beskik en was ’n lid van die skool se koor. Die personeel van die skool was geskok om van sy tragiese dood te verneem en onthou hom as ’n aangename persoon. Ook aan die Universiteit van Stellenbosch het hy aansien verwerf.
R2 000 Burglary in Cheve Street:
A burglary occurred at the home of Mr. J. Esterhuysen, Cheve Street, yesterday and the police received a report that R2 000 had been stolen from the house. Detectives investigating the case, recovered R1 000 but last night another R1 000 was still missing and there had been no arrests. Police investigations were continuing.
Rock Opera In Trinity Church:
Young people are expected to flock to the Holy Trinity Church on Sunday at 6.45 p.m. when the controversial rock opera, Jesus Christ Superstar, will be played. The script has been renewed so that listeners will be able to follow the words more closely.
