WSU Mthatha Campus Ladies will again face a tough league opening match, as they are opening the league against their rivals, Coastal Ladies.

Last season WSU opened their first league match in the Sasol League against rivals Ayakha Stars, and lost 1–0 and it was their first match since being promoted to the league.

This season is their second in the league and again they are opening against another dangerous rival, Coastal Ladies’ FC. Both teams are from Mthatha.

Meanwhile the newly-promoted Bizana team, 4800 Ladies, will not play this weekend. They are going to play on April 6 against Cumakala Ladies’ FC in Lady Frere Sports Field in Komani.

4800 Ladies’ FC team manager, Mkhuseli Nteyi, said the preparations are going very well.

“Some of our players were selected in u/19 premiere games held in East London this past weekend, and we lost in the finals,” said Nteyi.

“The only challenge we have is that the majority of our players do not have identity documents, but we managed to do passports for them. We are going to fight and our plan is to end the season at least in top two positions.”

The 2024 Eastern Cape Sasol League season is expected to kick off this coming Saturday.
