An off-duty police Sergeant from Public Order Policing obliviously walked into a robbery that was taking place at a business in East London, and his reaction resulted in the arrest of two suspects on Wednesday, June 21.
Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu confirmed that both suspects, aged 26 and 32, are expected to appear in the East London Magistrate’s Court soon in connection with a robbery. She said it is alleged that at about 15:30, the complainant (41) was in his shop on Terminus Street in East London when two males entered and pointed a firearm at him.
“His assistant ran away; they demanded cellphones while at the same time helping themselves with five cellphones.
As they were exiting the shop, the police officer walked in. After warning them to surrender, they pointed the firearm at him and fell on deaf ears; he fired two shots, hitting them in the upper body,” said Naidu. She added that the stolen cell phones were found in their possession, and were taken to hospital for treatment.
Naidu said a case of business robbery is under investigation. According to her, one of the suspects (26) also possessed about 10 mandrax tablets and loose dagga. “He was also charged with possession of drugs.
