Eastern Cape Department of Health MEC, Ntandokazi Capa, has learnt with shock the fatal shooting of a professional nurse by her EMS Client Information Officer boyfriend in eMaxesibeni, on Sunday, August 4. 

According to the Department of Health spokesperson, Mkhululi Ndamase, the nurse was based at the Rode Clinic while the Client Information Officer was based at the eMaxesibeni EMS base.

He reported that it is alleged that the Client Information Officer fatally shot his professional nurse girlfriend before turning the gun on himself.

“He is in a critical condition in ICU.

“They were both off duty at the time of the incident,” Ndamase explained.

Ndamase explaied that MEC Capa condemned the incident.

“We want to send our heartfelt condolences to the family of the professional nurse. We also wish the Client Information Officer a speedy recovery; so that if he is found to be guilty, he will face the full might of the law.

“We are saddened by this unfortunate incident that has robbed us of a dedicated healthcare worker. We are more concerned that this act of alleged gender-based violence is happening during Women’s Month,” Capa said.

“The EMS personnel were the first to arrive at the scene with the police arriving soon after. 

MEC Capa has instructed the district management team to visit the family of the slain professional nurse, soon.”
