The chairperson for National African Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mlungisi Ndobeni, confirmed that they are on a mission to equip youth who are interested in Agro-Ecology Farming in the OR Tambo District and surrounds.

Ndobeni indicated that they had trained 50 youth so far and divided them into two groups. He said that they had placed both groups at Ncise Primary School and Gobizizwe Agricultural High School in Mthatha.

“Our intention is that we want them to do Enterprise Development so that they can have their own co-operatives one day. We are glad because they are showing an interest in what they are doing,” said Ndobeni.

He added that they are taking all young people, as long they show an interest in producing food. According to him, they want people to stop using chemicals because they are dangerous to their bodies.

“The advantages of Agro Ecology are that people use rubbish that is thrown away and turn it into manure. It also helps in cleaning the area.

“This type of agriculture improves human health, etc. One of the trainees, Nobukho Mbalane, said that she had learnt a lot from the programme.

“It teaches us that we should not depend on other people, and this type of ploughing helps us to fight disease in our bodies,” said Mbalane.
