A 30-year-old man briefly appeared before the Mount Frere Magistrate Court in connection with the murder of Mandisa Mvoko, a senior Eastern Cape education department official.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Majola Nkohli, the accused, Sibusiso Dlamini, was denied bail and remanded in custody.
“Mvoko’s body was found tied up and wrapped in plastic and a blanket in the boot of her car at Mbodleni Location in Mount Frere on February 26. Police were alerted a patron about a suspicious bakkie parked on the roadside with a rubbish bin at the back,” said Nkohli.
The Department of Education spokesperson, Mali Mtima, confirmed that Mvoko was an education specialist for assessment and examination in the Alfred Nzo district.
“According to a report provided by the district, her remains were discovered in the boot of her car, wrapped in plastics and a blanket, parked near Mbodleni Primary School in Mount Frere. A case of murder with an additional charge of defeating the ends of justice was opened with the police,” said Mtima.
Mvoko was buried at her home in Matatiele last weekend, added Mtima.
The MEC for the Department of Education, Fundile Gade, called upon the province’s society to help protect educators who help to plow the seed of development in the community.
“My condolences to the Mvoko family, her colleagues and the entire education system. This is a setback to our plans of improving the performance of this province,” said Gade.
The case was postponed until March 9 for further investigation.
