EIGHT women’s football teams are expected to compete for the R15 000 prizes on December 18 at the Soccer Queen’s Cup tournament.

The tournament will be held at All Saints Sports Ground in Ngcobo on Wednesday. The first prize is R15 000, the second prize is R10 000, and the third prize is R5 000.

Participating teams are coming from across the Eastern Cape province.

The teams include EC Peace Lovers Ladies’ FC from Ngcobo, Jubase Youth Academy from Mthatha, Executive Ladies’ FC from Ntabankulu, Blackpool Ladies’ FC from King William’s Town, Nav Galaxy Ladies’ FC from East London, Sapphire Ladies from Mthatha, P.S.G Ladies from Elliotdale, and Madrid Ladies’ FC from Port St John’s.

This year, the tournament has changed its name; last year, the tournament was known as the Zwelakhe Memorial Women’s Tournament, but it has now been renamed the Queen’s Cup Women’s Tournament.

In 2023, the Zwelakhe Women’s Tournament was won by Nav Galaxy Ladies’ FC from East London. However, according to the organisers, this is a new tournament with a new name.
