The Ayabulela Amaxesibe Trading 2024 Tournament was officially launched this past Sunday.
The tournament started back in 2019, and was first won by Qokolweni Legends FC. In 2020 and 2021 it was not played, due to COVID-19, and then in 2022 the tournament was won by Nyandeni Legends, who again won last year.
Lunga Tukute, who is the chairperson of OR Tambo Veterans League Legends, said their main objective is to revive the sport in rural areas.
“Ayabulela Amaxesibe Trading is going to sponsor both soccer and netball for the fourth time this year, so today we are launching the tournament. Our main objective is to develop sport in our areas,” said Tukute.
Ayabulela Amaxesibe Trading director, Vuyisile Tupa, said they are grateful to be given another opportunity to sponsor the tournament.
“We work very well with the previous leadership, and the new leadership also approached me to be part of this year’s tournament.
“One of our objectives is development, and thanks to the leadership for inviting other businesses to develop the community. If we businesspeople are not supporting rural sport it means we will lose more young people to other areas.”
SAFA OR Tambo was also part of the launch.
The tournament consists of the teams who finished in top eight from both soccer and netball.
The tournament will take place on April 6.
