The founder for TYD Modelling Academy, Sipho Cakata (15) recently hosted Mr & Miss Ward 31. The pageant was aimed at affording young people an opportunity to showcase their talent.

Cakata, from Nyandeni locality in Libode said that the community is filled with young talented people who do not know that they are talented.

“This was my first event, I hosted it with the intention of uplifting the community, more especially the youth. I also wanted to show them that they can be anything they want to be even if they are coming from the rural areas,” said Cakata.

The Grade 10 learner added that he wanted the youth to gain more confidence.

“They can shine and improve their lives for the better. Nowadays young people do not want to take part in things that benefit them anymore and this is caused by the leaders who do not lead by example. I want to bridge that gap because we as young people are the next generation.”

Caka added that women empowerment is also close to his heart.

“Women should be empowered so that they can be independent. Men need to be given chances that is why they were involved in the event. I wanted the event to be different because it was hosted by a young person. I want this pageant to grow not only for Ward 31 but for all the whole Eastern Cape.”
