A total of 12 people died in a head-on collision on the N2 road outside Dutywa around 8 pm on December 21.
Department of Transport provincial spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, said two other passengers sustained serious injuries.
“A Toyota Quantum with 10 passengers and a Ford Ranger with four passengers collided. In the Ford Ranger, three occupants, all males, died at the scene while one female passenger sustained serious injuries,” he said.
In the minibus taxi, Binqose said, eight people died at the scene. They were a mix of males and females. Two other people were rushed to hospital, he said.
One of the injured died this morning in hospital.
Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
