CAPE TOWN – A man was shot and killed at a café in Marine Circle, Table View yesterday (Monday 25 May) in what police believe may have been a targeted attack.
Provincial police spokesperson Capt FC Van Wyk said Table View police were called to the scene at around 14:00 following reports of a shooting.
“Upon arrival at the scene, members found the body of a 33-year-old male with several gunshot wounds lying on his stomach,” Van Wyk said.
He confirmed that the victim was declared dead on the scene and that investigations into the circumstances and motive are ongoing.
“No arrests have been made at this stage,” he added.

Emergency response praised
Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene, with multiple medical and security teams assisting.
According to Community Medics, their team responded urgently alongside other emergency units:
“An urgent response to a shooting incident in Marine Circle at a well-known establishment, swiftly joined by Netcare911, ER24 EMS, and Metro EMS Western District. Sadly, one deceased; with our condolences to the family. The scene was handed over to the police who will provide further information to the media. Thank you to Core Tactical Services – CTS who had our backs.”
The precinct management also thanked emergency services for their rapid reaction.
“We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Core Tactical Armed Response for their immediate reaction and assistance on scene, as well as the police and emergency medical personnel.”
Investigation ongoing
Police have appealed for information, asking anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact Detective Captain Jood Tieties on 079 894 1257, Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or via the MySAPS app.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation while investigations continue.
Beach Boulevard Business District statement
In a separate press statement issued by the Beach Boulevard Business District / Marine Circle Precinct management, the shooting was described as an “isolated shooting incident”.
“The incident involved a single victim and… appears to have been a targeted attack directed at a specific individual. No patrons, staff members, or bystanders were injured during the incident.
And reassured the public that. “There is no indication of any ongoing threat to residents, visitors, or businesses within the area, and the precinct remains safe.”
The precinct also emphasised that Marine Circle remains a popular tourism and hospitality hub, supported by strong security presence and active monitoring.
Resident reactions
Sarah Jacobs, Table View resident said: “This is really shocking. Marine Circle is usually such a busy and family-friendly place. You never expect something like this in broad daylight.”
Liam de Vries, a Bloubergstrand local said: “I’m relieved they say it was targeted and not random, but it still makes you think about safety in areas we visit all the time.”
