OVERBERG – A 61-year-old man was found seriously injured under a fallen branch in the yard of his home in Bereaville on Monday morning. He was later declared dead at the scene.

During heavy storms across the Western Cape on Monday 11 May, the man was discovered by a witness who came across the scene at around 08:50 at a property in Williams Steet, Bereaville. This is according to Captain FC van Wyk, Media Liaison Officer for Western Cape Police.

The witness reportedly attempted to help the man, but his dog aggressively charged at the witness thus preventing him from helping the man. “The witness contacted the police and ambulance services, who responded immediately,” said van Wyk.

Upon arrival, officers and medical personnel found the man lying in the yard beneath a tree branch that had been blown off by the wind. Paramedics declared him dead at the scene.

An inquest docket for investigation has been registered by Genadendal police.
