GAMTOOS – Galaxy Casting Productions is set to launch the Ubuntu Youth Bootcamp, a dynamic three-day film production training camp taking place from 6 October to 8 October at the Gamtoos Ferry Hotel near Jeffreys Bay in the Eastern Cape.

The Reel Ubuntu Project is a groundbreaking youth development initiative by Galaxy Casting Productions aimed at equipping high school learners in the Kouga and Kou-Kamma region with film production skills while promoting cultural storytelling.
Marshall Geswint, Assistant Producer of Galaxy Casting, said that the Reel Ubuntu Project will give 30 high school learners from six schools the opportunity to step into the world of film, with participants receiving hands-on training from industry professionals using professional equipment.
He further said that this initiative reflects their commitment to nurturing local talent, reducing youth unemployment, and building a vibrant creative hub in Kouga.
“Through workshops, mentorship, and the production of short films, participants will gain exposure to the creative industries, opening doors to future career opportunities,” said Geswint.
The intensive boot camp will provide training in acting, scriptwriting, cinematography, directing and teamwork.
Geswint said that each team will create their own short film, which will premiere at the Youth Film Festival, where the winning film will be awarded a filmmaker’s kit packed with cameras and gear to kickstart their creative journey.
He said that the programme targets learners from four schools in Kouga Municipality and two schools in Kou-Kamma Municipality.
“The skills development initiative is designed to inspire and empower young people in the Kouga and Kou-Kamma region while fostering teamwork, discipline and cultural pride,” said Geswint.
The Ubuntu Youth Bootcamp will culminate in a Film Festival Showcase in December 2025, where learners’ work will be presented to the community, stakeholders, and potential industry partners.
Geswint said that those who are interested in sponsoring the project will see their company logo added to every short film which will be shared on their social media platform and website.
“The festival is expected to attract an audience of 500 to 600 community members and will feature a red-carpet experience, guest speakers, awards, trophies, and live performances,” said Geswint.
He said that the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) serves as the primary sponsor for the project, with its logo featuring on all marketing and media platforms.
Geswint said that the school that produces the best short film will receive a DSLR camera with a condenser microphone to continue their filmmaking journey.
