JEFFREYS BAY – The 23rd annual First Choice Race, hosted by Woodlands Dairy, took place on Saturday, 3 January 2026, at Victory Christian School in Jeffreys Bay, and once again proved to be a resounding success.
The event drew record-breaking participation across its three categories: the 15km main race, the 6km fun run, and the ever-popular 60m Milki Moo Dash for children under nine, cementing its status as one of the region’s most anticipated sporting fixtures.
Mandla Charlie of Woodlands Dairy and First Choice said, “This race really sets the fitness tone for the rest of the year. Since the indulgence of the festive season, we’ve noticed that many fitness enthusiasts use this event as a way to reset, refocus and get back on track. It’s become a motivating starting point for people who want to commit to their health and fitness goals for the year ahead. The race continues to grow each year and has become a much-loved Kouga District tradition that brings the community together to celebrate health, fitness and fun. We take immense pride in its success.”
Adding to the excitement of the day was an extraordinary sporting achievement, with Melikhaya Frans claiming victory in the men’s race for an unprecedented tenth consecutive year.
“Melikhaya’s achievement is nothing short of remarkable,” said Charlie.
“Ten consecutive wins speak to exceptional discipline, consistency and talent. Performances like this inspire both seasoned runners and newcomers alike and perfectly capture the spirit of excellence and perseverance that the First Choice Race stands for.”
Runners fuelled up with First Choice High Protein Recovery, while kids enjoyed the tasty goodness of First Choice Milki.
