WITH the aim of empowering and nurturing the St Francis Bay community, where a fire broke out at on Sunday evening, Woodlands Dairy rose to the challenge by ensuring that those affected have somewhere to go and something to eat.
Woodlands Dairy said it is committed to its social, cultural and environmental responsibilities towards the communities of Humansdorp and the surrounding areas, as well as further afield.
Carmelia Miles, who is responsible for the events, CSI and marketing at Woodlands Dairy, said, “We’re horrified by the fire that broke out (on Sunday) and burnt 35 shacks down to the ground and damaged a further eight in St Francis Bay. Forty-seven adults and seven children are now destitute, but thankfully there were no fatalities or injuries.”
Woodlands Dairy was one of the first community supporters on the scene.
Miles added, “Through our CSI project, Shekinah Soup Kitchen, we sponsored a warm, cooked maize meal porridge breakfast with milk and sugar this morning.
“Via another of our CSI projects, Masikhathalelaneni, we’ve donated milk and more maize meal. Those affected will have porridge on a daily basis, while they’re living in the community hall, until their homes are rebuilt.
“Both CSI projects have supported the victims with clothing and blankets, and will continue to assist with transportation, cooked meals, food parcels, clothing and homeware where and when needed. Our hearts go out to those affected and we’ll continue to assist until they’re on their feet again.”
