To raise much-needed funding for two local charities, the Marina Martinique’s Homeowners’ Association (HOA) will host the first Crú du Marina, a wine-tasting event on April 15, which will see visitors being transported by boat to eight stunning homes along the Marina to enjoy a vast variety of wine.
According to project manager, Roel Bester, the HOA believes in giving back to the community through financial support, volunteerism and security programmes, and strives to contribute to the well-being of neighbouring communities and selected charities.
He said that by hosting the wine tasting event, they can showcase the beautiful Marina Martinique lifestyle and make a valuable donation to local charities, by donating all proceeds collected from ticket sales to the JBay Recycling Project and the JBay Animal Rescue Sanctuary.
“For the past 10 years, the JBay Recycling Project has been alleviating hunger in the poor communities by providing essentials to the children and simultaneously cleaning up the environment and educating the youth on a clean environment,” said Bester.
“The JBay Animal Rescue Sanctuary has avid animal lovers who strive to alleviate the suffering that is endured in the local townships by many domestic animals.
“The sanctuary is a safe haven for all animals in the township that need care and the volunteers educate the community about animal rights and needs.”
Bester said the first wine-tasting experience on the waterways of Marina Martinique will be open to homeowners and the public at a price of R395 per person.
“Guests will be ferried by at least 10 barges from the starting point at the local restaurant, Marina Nina’s, to eight homes on the waterways. It will be a free hop-on hop-off taxi service,” said Bester.
“The wine farms will exhibit their wine on the deck of each of the eight homes, and guests will have a wine-tasting experience.”
Bester said that ticket holders would register upon arrival at Marina Nina’s from 08:30 on April 15, and would be provided with a wine-tasting kit which includes a sling and wine glass.
They will also receive a programme, map of the route and list of wine farms.
He said that once guests have registered, the first barge will depart at 10:00 and the event will end at 18:00 at Marina Nina’s.
Bester said that at the route’s halfway mark, hamburgers would be available for purchase at the Brewhaha food truck, while Marina Nina’s would be open to the public throughout the day for meals.
He said that any wine purchased during the event can be collected from the collection point at Marina Martinique from 14:00.
