WATER restrictions remain in place at all Kouga towns.
Kouga Mayor Horatio Hendricks said that despite the recent good rain, the combined level of the dams that supply Kouga and Nelson Mandela Bay with water was only at 54%.
“That means we are not out of the danger zone yet.
“As our region is prone to drought, using water wisely needs to become part of our new ‘normal’,” he encouraged participants at a recent prayer day at the Kouga Dam.
He said the Department of Water and Sanitation had further refused to increase the amount of water that the municipality may draw from the Kouga Dam for use by Hankey and Patensie households.
“As a result, we are also not able to stop water rationing at these towns just yet.
“We will, however, continue to put pressure on the Department to increase the quota as the dam level jumped from below 7% to above 52% in September, delaying Day Zero by more than a year.”
