Councillor Timothy Jantjes was elected as the new deputy executive mayor of the Kouga Municipality, at a council meeting in Jeffreys Bay on August 31.
Jantjes took over the position left vacant when Councillor Hattingh Bornman was elected Kouga executive mayor, taking the reins from former mayor, Horatio Hendricks, recently appointed as a DA member in the Eastern Cape Legislature.
Dr Vicky Knoetze, Tsitsi-Kouga constituency leader, said that the DA congratulates Jantjes, who she believes will build on the good work started by the DA when they took over the Kouga government in 2016.
She said that Jantjes was first elected as a councillor in 2018, and currently also serves as the mayoral committee member for electro and mechanical services.
“He has shown himself to be an excellent public representative, and has a proven track record of selfless service to the communities of Kouga,” said Knoetze.
“The DA has full confidence in the abilities of Jantjes, and knows that he will provide valuable support to Bornman in continuing to implement the DA’s mandate of clean governance and service delivery.”
