Local resident Chamel Malgas (34) from Sea Vista in St Francis Bay finished in the top five at the recent Pro-Am Tournament that formed part of the SDC Championships which took place at St Francis Links from March 16 to 19.
The SDC Championship, that drew a strong selection of the most in-form players on the Sunshine Tour and DP World Tour, took to the greens at St Francis Links.
Working as a secretary at Talhado Montessori Pre-School and Children’s Haven since 2007, Malgas who is a member of the St Francis Bay Golf Club, has been playing social golf for some years.
She has only recently decided to take her golfing career further by participating in more serious competitions and tournaments.
A highlight over the past three years – competing at various regional tournaments – includes her top 10 spot at the EP and Border Championship in 2021.
Malgas has, furthermore, won bronze at the St Francis Bay Golf Club Division, and in 2022 she competed at regional level.
She also claimed victory at the Pam Golding Championship in 2022.
Malgas said playing at the SDC Championship Pro-Am was a great opportunity for her and her golfing career.
“When I received the call, inviting me to play at the Pro-Am, I did not ask any questions. I immediately said yes. I knew this was an opportunity I could not miss,” said Malgas.
“Finishing in the top five was amazing. I am still in awe of the unforgettable experience that formed part of the SDC Championship.”
