The Jeffreys Bay Squash Club held their annual club championship from March 11 to 15, with a large turnout. Thirty-two players contested the 2024 competition.

Many of the players played in their first championship, and were therefore newcomers to the sport of squash.

On finals day on March 15, there were numerous close matches, with every player jostling for their place on the club ladder.

Good sportsmanship and camaraderie were displayed, and the large crowd enjoyed every match.

For a remarkable 16th time, veteran Rian Raubenheimer took top honours, by beating Pierre Griezel 3–0 in a thrilling final.

The oldest contestant, Francois Hennin (82), was an enthusiastic player the entire week. He donated a megaphone that came in handy to curb the excitement of the crowd of spectators.

The 2024 Ladies’ Champion was Julie Maunder and the Junior Champion was Reuben Griezel.

There will surely be a few challenge matches in the next few weeks to improve the position on the ladder.
