EASTERN CAPE – SPAR has recently provided much-needed support for communities and emergency teams affected by the ongoing fires in the Nelson Mandela Bay and Kouga Municipalities of the Eastern Cape.
The fires have caused widespread disruption in the region, with evacuations in areas such as Kromrivier and Oyster Bay, the closure of the N2 between Gqeberha and Jeffreys Bay, and emergency services working around the clock to contain multiple blazes and flare-ups.
In response, SPAR Eastern Cape Distribution Centre (DC) has stepped in to provide urgent relief support to both frontline responders and displaced families with essential items worth R100,000.
“Our thoughts are with the firefighters, emergency teams and families who are dealing with the impact of these fires,” said Natasha Rogan, SPAR Eastern Cape Marketing Executive.
“While this is a small gesture, we hope it offers some practical support to those working tirelessly on the ground and to communities that have been affected.”
“We would like to thank SPAR and members of the broader community for the support received, which has been of real value to our teams on the ground,” said Angelique Minnie, Divisional Head at the Fire Department of Nelson Mandela Bay. “Those who would like to assist are encouraged to drop off donations at their nearest designated centre, where they can be coordinated effectively.”
SPAR’s intervention reflects its broader commitment to community support across South Africa, particularly during times of disaster and disruption.
