After he began offering quality security training courses free of charge two years ago, in a bid to increase employment opportunities and break the cycle of poverty in Kareedouw, Jacobus Jantjes is delighted that two of his former students have finally secured contract jobs as security guards.
As previously reported by Kouga Express, Jantjes worked in the South African Army for many years, and later as a security manager and director of Western Province Protection Services, his own company in Cape Town, which has since closed.
In 2021, when he returned home to Kareedouw to retire, he was determined to make a change in his community which faced many challenges with poverty and unemployment.
The following year, with his knowledge and experience in the security sector, Jantjes established his security training company, JF Security Services, to assist students from Kareedouw and surrounding areas in preparing for the security training examination.
Now, two years later, he is thrilled that two of his former students, Sarotina Prins and Simamkele Mambele, have qualified and registered with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) to apply for employment within the security sector.
“Both Sarotina and Simamkele registered with PSIRA in May, and are the first of my students to have registered with PSIRA,” said Jantjes.
To add to this excitement, he said the two have also recently been employed by a reputable security company, on a contract basis.
“They are very excited and happy that they are now fully-registered security officers,” said Jantjes.
Even though they have been employed on a contract basis, he said that while working they will obtain the necessary physical experience needed to be security guards and learn more about their duties.
“I am very proud and humbled that they have received employment,” said Jantjes.
“I am looking forward to empowering more local people, which will enable them to provide for themselves and their families.”
When approached by people in his community, Jantjes said he is always eager to help them with their security training courses, which he does from the bottom of his heart.
“If we can ensure that our local people get job opportunities, it can surely minimise poverty, and alcohol and drug abuse. It can also help bring pride back into our community because people will be able to provide for themselves,” said Jantjes.
“This is what God can do if you put your trust and belief in Him.”
