Thanks to the training assistance from Jacobus Jantjes, owner and founder of JF Security Services, who offers his support to train people in the Kou-Kamma region in partnership with Scorpions Training Academy in Jeffreys Bay, two individuals from Kareedouw recently received qualifications within the security sector.
As previously reported, Jacobus Jantjes worked in the South African Army for many years, and later as a security manager and director of Western Province Protection Services, his own company in Cape Town, which has since closed.
In 2021, when he returned home to Kareedouw to retire, Jantjes was determined to make a change in his community, which faced many challenges with poverty and unemployment.
The following year, with his knowledge and experience in the security sector, he established his security company, JF Security Services, to assist students from Kareedouw and surrounding areas in preparing for the security training examination.
“Witnessing the need for trained security personnel in my community sparked something within me, and I knew I had to take action to make a difference. Security companies from outside the Kou-Kamma borders were establishing a presence in our area, often bringing their own employees and bypassing local talent,” said Jantjes.
He stated that since he began offering training assistance, at least 20 members of the local community have qualified as security officers and have registered with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA).
Furthermore, Jantjes mentioned that many have been employed by various security companies.
He shared that recently he had the privilege of assisting Sarotine Prins to obtain her armed response qualification, and Ranuph Koekemoer to receive his Grade E to C security grades.
Jantjes described both students as dedicated and ambitious individuals.
He further expressed his pride in seeing Prins, who was his first student when he began offering the course in the community, secure a job as a CCTV controller at Smhart Security in Kareedouw.
“The determination and commitment to their goals were truly inspiring, and I was honoured to play a role in their success. Through hard work and dedication, Sarotine and Ranuph were able to overcome challenges and achieve their certificates,” said Jantjes.
“I am proud to have been part of both their journeys and look forward to seeing the impact they will make in their future endeavours.”
Jantjes explained that when he returned home in 2021, he did not initially plan to offer security training. However, he is grateful to be making a difference in his community through his course.
Considering the lack of opportunities for people in Kareedouw, he hopes to encourage more people to offer training, mentorship, and support to those in need.
“As we strive to make a positive impact in our communities, let us not forget those who struggle to find employment due to a lack of training or skills.
“By lending a helping hand, we can empower them to reach their full potential and become valuable contributors to our society,” said Jantjes.
