The First Choice Invitational, formerly known as the Nico 7’s, will take place from August 31 to September 2, at the Nico Malan High School in Humansdorp.

A total of 15 formidable Rugby 7’s teams and 10 lightning-quick Netball 5’s teams hailing from primary and high schools will battle it out on the sports fields.

Notably, this year’s tournament will mark the inaugural inclusion of the Netball Fast 5s.

Mandla Charlie, assistant brand manager at Woodlands Dairy and First Choice said, “We’re elated to welcome back the Rugby 7’s to Humansdorp and extend our hospitality to the Netball 5’s for the very first time.”

He said that in light of their sponsorship of the Netball World Cup this year, they have decided to incorporate netball into the event, granting it the acknowledgment it truly deserves.

“Female sports, particularly netball, have not garnered the same level of attention as rugby and cricket, and we firmly believe that the time has come to empower young girls with the understanding that a promising future awaits them in netball,” said Charlie.

“This occasion presents youngsters with the invaluable chance to enhance their skills by competing against teams from all corners of the nation.”

Teams from the Eastern Cape, Gauteng, Kwa-Zulu Natal, the Free State, and Western Cape will participate.

Charlie further emphasised that the region has nurtured rugby talents like Selvyn Davids.

“This event provides young individuals with the chance to test their skills against others in the same age group,” said Charlie.

“Sport now offers excellent opportunities, both in rugby and netball, and we want to facilitate growth in these specific sports. Furthermore, it plays a pivotal role in steering kids away from less constructive pursuits and imbuing them with a sense of purpose.”

The event promises fierce competition, unyielding athleticism, and unforgettable memories, with the backing of First Choice High Protein Recovery to empower athletes to surmount their limits.

“We’re offering remarkable prizes, including the prestigious First Choice Floating Trophy, substantial cash rewards, and the ultimate in bragging rights. We look forward to seeing you there,” said Charlie.

Each day from August 31 to September 2, the sporting event will take place from 08:00 to 17:30 at Nico Malan High School.

Entrance fees cost R20 per person and R30 per car.
