Kouga Municipality invites all interested and affected residents to participate in the review of the Seekoei Estuary Management Plan, at a meeting to be held at the Aston Bay Community Hall from 09:00 to 12:00 on Tuesday, November 21.

This is the first of several meetings to be held.

Points for discussion include, but are not limited to, the vision and objectives for the Seekoei Estuary Management, and the prioritisation of the management objectives.

The reviewed Seekoei Estuary Management Plan will be drafted in accordance with the National Environmental Management Integrated Coastal Management Act (NEM: ICMA), as well as the National Estuarine Protocol.

  • The existing Estuary Management Plan is available on the Kouga Municipality website at https://www.kouga.gov.za/documentlibrary/seekoei-estuarine-management-plan.

Six-point plan

The municipality is, furthermore, pleased about the progress made on the six focus areas to rectify the Seekoei Estuary in a sustainable manner.

Test results

The latest water test results will be shared with residents on Monday, November 13, 2023.

It is still the intention of the municipality to open the Seekoei Estuary for swimming and fishing by December 2023, should it be safe to do so.
